5% Flat Rate on Foreign Pension
Cyprus tax residents receiving pensions from services rendered abroad may, where conditions are met, elect a special 5% tax on the amount exceeding €5,000 per year instead of progressive rates. Availability depends on the pension type and the relevant tax treaty.
Alternative: Standard Progressive Rates
As an alternative to the special option, a pensioner can apply the 2026 Cyprus progressive rates: 0% up to €22,000, 20% from €22,001 to €32,000, 25% from €32,001 to €42,000, 30% from €42,001 to €72,000 and 35% above €72,000. The choice should be reviewed annually with a qualified professional.
No Double Taxation
Double-tax treaties may allocate or limit taxing rights between the country of source and the country of residence. Their effect must be verified against the relevant treaty and the exact nature of the pension payment.
Government Pensions: Note
Government, military and public-sector pensions can follow rules that differ from private or occupational pensions. The applicable treaty and the pension’s legal character should be reviewed before relocation planning.
